Former Bakersfield councilman named to fair board
By The Bakersfield Californian
Former Bakersfield Councilman Mark Salvaggio has been appointed to the Kern County Fair Board by Gov. Jerry Brown, it was announced Friday.
Salvaggio, a retired Arvin Union High School District teacher who spent 19 years on the Bakersfield City Council, was known for his dogged commitment to respond to citizen complaints about basic public services from roads to sewers.
"This position does not require Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Salvaggio is registered decline-to-state," the press release from Brown's office stated.
"I want to see the Kern County Fair continue to be a good value to the people of Kern County -- entertainment, education, livestock show and auction," Salvaggio said. "I will work hard to make sure the Fair and Fairgrounds provide a positive social and economic impact to our community."
