By THE BAKERSFIELD CALIFORNIAN

John Arthur, who has served as interim editor of The Bakersfield Californian for the past three months, has been promoted to vice president and executive editor of the newspaper.

The announcement was made Wednesday afternoon in the company's third-floor newsroom at its downtown offices on Eye Street. We are thrilled to have someone of John's background and stature leading our news organization."

Prior to that, Arthur spent eight years at the San Francisco Examiner.

His wife, Anne Eggebroten, is a 1966 graduate of East Bakersfield High School. John and Anne have three daughters.

"I'm extremely happy to join The Californian," Arthur said. "It's a strong, creative paper in a vibrant area with a rich history."
