Kern Citizens for Sustainable Government strives to support polices in Kern County that will allow residents to thrive in economic growth. That's what Jenifer Pitcher, the community liaison for the nonprofit, said Tuesday on "First Look with Scott Cox."
Joined by Californian President and CEO Richard Beene, Pitcher talked about her daily duties for the organization.
"I go to supervisor, school and district meetings and I pay attention to the three components of our mission -- pension reform, education and efficiency of government," Pitcher said.
Beene mentioned that many cities have extreme cases of pension deficit and have even faced bankruptcy, but Pitcher said Kern County is doing "relatively good compared to other cities."
The organization is also taking a look at the Kern Medical Center budget plan. Pitcher said she did a lot of research on KMC salaries and found the top salary at the hospital was $750,000.
"It was a really surprising number," Pitcher said.
