Q: Northbound traffic on Coffee Road at Truxtun Avenue can really back up while the vehicles that turn right (east) onto Truxtun Avenue never back up.

Has the city considered restriping Coffee Road to allow three lanes of traffic to travel north through the intersection instead of just the two lanes? (Especially now with the eastbound option that the new parkway provides).

A: Nick Fidler, city assistant public works director, responded:

Traffic patterns on all corridors adjacent to the Westside Parkway have changed drastically since the opening in August. Now that school is back in session and the traffic patterns have been established, the city's Traffic Engineering Division is performing intersection studies to all the intersections adjacent to the Westside Parkway.

As part of this study, the Traffic Engineering Division is reviewing the operation of the Coffee Road and Truxtun Avenue intersection. The evaluation of the intersection will determine if the northbound dual right-turn movement on Coffee Road and Truxtun Avenue is still warranted based on turning movement counts at peak hours. Traffic Engineering Division anticipates completing this study early next year.
