It's that time of year when the hair on the back of your neck stands up as you're chased by monsters in the most exhilarating walk of your life.

And this year, Scream in the Dark returns after 11 years to terrify local thrill-seekers. It will be near Golden State Mall, at F Street and Golden State Highway.

Thursday on "First Look with Scott Cox," David Enloe with Scream in the Dark said this was the year to bring back the haunted attraction.

"We miss the fans out here and we don't want to leave after Halloween so we are looking at starting a tradition and seeking a permanent location in the future," Enloe said.

After taking a year off from The Chamber, a haunt he started in Bakersfield in 2001, Enloe said he came back with more design ideas. Fans can expect everything to look more realistic, as Enloe partnered with professional makeup artists, set designers and actors.

"Halloween is a huge industry," Enloe said. "So we look for ideas and we start planning for the following year to be a year ahead."

Simulcast host Scott Cox asked if his family was involved in Scream in the Dark; Enloe said that is the best part.

This year, Enloe took his wife on her first TransWorld's Halloween Attraction in St. Louis, Mo., and he was surprised by what she requested for Scream in the Dark.

"She said she wanted to have a decapitated toddler on a swing," Enloe said with a laugh. "She loves this event and what we do."

Opening night is Oct. 4. Cost is $10 and hours are 7 to 10 p.m. weekdays and 7 to 11 p.m. weekends.
