The city of Wasco received a nearly $1 million grant from the state Department of Housing and Community Development, state Assemblyman Rudy Salas, D-Bakersfield, said Wednesday.
"This funding will help first-time home buyers and improve commercial space in the city," Salas said in a press release.
Wasco received $973,245 in Community Development Block Grant funds.
The city will put $558,000 into its Direct Homeownership Assistance program, which provides first-time, low-income home buyers with a financial boost toward their down payments, a Salas spokesman said.
Another $279,000 will provide city grants for improving the facades of commercial buildings, and nearly $140,000 will go to plan and administer the programs.
