Five years later, a suspect has been arrested in a shooting that badly injured a Bakersfield woman and killed her 26-week-old fetus.
Recent new information led to the arrest of Justin English, the boyfriend of the shooting victim and the father of her child, Kern County sheriff's deputies reported Friday. English was taken into custody Thursday and has been charged with attempted murder of the woman and murder of the fetus.
English is being held on $1 million bail and his arraignment is scheduled for Monday.
The shooting happened about 6 p.m. July 1, 2007, deputies reported. They responded to an apartment in the 2700 block of South Union Avenue and found a woman in her 40s suffering numerous gunshot wounds.
The woman was taken to Mercy Hospital, where it was determined the fetus had died, deputies reported. The woman suffered permanent injuries as a result of the shooting.
English was considered a person of interest at the time but was not arrested, according to deputies. He stayed in Bakersfield and was living in the 8300 block of Fillmore Avenue when arrested Thursday.
