Kern County Supervisors Mike Maggard and Leticia Perez will host Bakersfield City Council members Russell Johnson and Willie Rivera at the first meeting of the county Ad-Hoc Committee on Public Transportation and Pedestrian Safety Wednesday morning.

Supervisors created the committee to raise and discuss issues of pedestrian safety and debate solutions after the number of pedestrians killed by vehicles in Kern County took a troubling jump in recent years.

The committee will meet 10 a.m. Wednesday in the third floor multi-purpose room at the Kern County Administrative Center, 1115 Truxtun Ave.

Representatives from the Bakersfield Homeless Center, Clinica Sierra Vista and the Golden Empire Transit District are scheduled to attend the meeting.
