Cathey's K-9 Rescue will be giving out 100 free spay/neuter vouchers to low-income residents this Saturday at the Petco on Rosedale Highway.

Recipients must bring proof of income, such as a utility bill, pay stub or EBT card.

The giveaway will last from 1 to 5 p.m., or until they run out of vouchers.

The vouchers are good only at Critters Without Litters and will cover the entire cost of the procedure. If the animal needs shots or has other issues, the owner is responsible for those costs.

Nancy Cathey, founder of Cathey's K-9, hopes the vouchers will reduce the number of puppy litters she takes in later this year during her second annual Puppy Surrender program.

Under the Puppy Surrender program, Cathey takes litters of puppies, by appointment only, and gives out vouchers to have the mother dog spayed.

She then adopts out the puppies.

Last year, she took in and adopted out more than 600 puppies and was able to get 119 mother dogs fixed.

The Puppy Surrender program begins in April.

Cathey is hoping for more donations to continue the free voucher program.

To donate or make an appointment to surrender puppies, contact Cathey at 760-417-9627.

She also has a PayPal account on her Facebook site at: https://www.facebook.com/CatheysK9Rescue and you can find out more about her adoptable dogs at http://www.petfinder.com/shelters/cathysk9rescue.html.
