Professional, amateur and student artists took to the asphalt of the grounds of The Marketplace on Saturday to create masterpieces as part of the 15th year of the Via Arte Italian Street Painting Festival.

The community event presented by the Bakersfield Museum of Art brings artists together to use simple chalk to draw beautiful art. More than 150 pieces are created.

Photographer Rod Thornburg was at the event Saturday to catpure the artists at work. You can still see the masterpieces all day Sunday. It's free to view the artwork, and there's music too.
