The Kern County Board of Supervisors' dismissal of animal control director Jen Woodard and Kern Medical Center CEO Paul Hensler was the discussion focus Wednesday on "First Look with Scott Cox."

"Twice in one week was pretty shocking," Californian reporter James Burger said of seeing board agenda items regarding public employee discipline or dismissal.

Californian columnist Lois Henry, who has closely covered animal control issues, said the angst over animal control superceded Woodard.

"As everyone knows I am a very outspoken critic of Jen Woodard and her administration," Henry said.

The columnist noted that county animal control is about to move to a new location and is looking at changing its entire structure, including how much of the department's work might be contracted out.

"The department is in turmoil," Burger said.

In regard to Hensler, Californian reporter Rachel Cook said a plan isn't yet in place to find his replacement.
