Want to see golf balls fall from a helicopter? Yes, it's set to happen in Bakersfield at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 11, when the Bakersfield Association of Realtors holds a Golf Ball Drop to benefit three local charities.
The money raised from numbered golf balls falling over Riverlakes Ranch Golf Course will go to the local chapter of Make-A-Wish, the Bakersfield Ronald McDonald House and the Wounded Heroes Fund, said Michele Cooper of Chevron Valley Credit Union.
"We're hoping to raise a lot of money for these great charities," Cooper said Thursday on "First Look with Scott Cox."
Simulcast guest host Lisa Krch said, "Kern County needs that. Something different, something unique."
Golf ball tickets can be purchased for $20 for one ball, or $100 for six balls. You can call the Bakersfield Association of Realtors at 635-2300 for ticket information.
According to a flier about the event, "numbered golf balls will be dropped from a helicopter over the Riverlakes Ranch Golf Course green toward the target hole on Oct. 11, 2013 at 5:30 p.m. If your ball is picked from a predetermined number of golf balls and lands in or closest to the hole, you will win our grand prize."
The grand prize is listed as $100,000. A first prize of $2,500 and a second prize of $1,000 are guaranteed winners, the flier says.
Scott Tobias, with Prudential Tobias, said the Realtors association in the last three years has really stepped up with donations to charities and hands-on volunteering.
