The Bakersfield Symphony Orchestra presents Giuseppe Verdi's "Messe da Requiem" -- "Requiem Mass" -- Saturday at Rabobank Theater.

Friday on "First Look with Scott Cox," orchestra conductor John Farrer talked about Verdi's challenging material that will be brought to life on stage.

About 225 people will be on stage, with the Cal State Bakersfield Choir and four soloists performing with the orchestra.

Farrer said he has spent a little over three hours a day for the past six weeks going over the music for Saturday's performance, even though he's conducted it many times.

"You have to be obsessive to be a musician," he said.

The show beings at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Rabobank Theater, 1001 Truxtun Ave. Admission is $20 to $45. For tickets, visit the Rabobank box office or www.bsonow.org.
