You can love the Bakersfield National Cemetery because it's truly unique and the scenary is breathtaking.

That is what Tom Pasek, president of the cemetery support committee, said Thursday on "First Look with Scott Cox."

The cemetery is looking for volunteers for Memorial Day weekend. You can go out at 8 a.m. May 24 and help place American flags along each grave, Pasek said.

"We have just under 3,000 graves and this is a free volunteer opportunity," he added.

Then Saturday evening, the Kern County Raceway Park will hold a salute to veterans event.

The community is also invited to attend the 40-minute Memorial Day ceremony Sunday at the cemetery. Pasek encouraged anyone who has not visited to spend some time on the 500-acre grounds.

"It's a great tribute to our veterans," he said.

The cemetery is at 30338 East Bear Mountain Blvd. in Arvin. For more information, call 867-2250 or (866) 632-1845.
