Take a look at your First News for Friday, May 3.

Two wind-whipped fires in dense brush along the Kern River between Manor Street and Highway 99 kept city and county firefighters and law enforcement crews scrambling Thursday afternoon.

And in other news, Deputy John Swearengin, the Kern County sheriff's deputy charged with two counts of felony vehicular manslaughter, had previously been reprimanded by the sheriff's department in connection with his driving and warned that unsafe driving jeopardized not only his life but the lives of the citizens he'd sworn to protect, prosecutors said.

Prosecutors and defense attorneys debated the relevance of that during a Thursday hearing.

All this and more. Watch this morning's news on "First Look with Scott Cox."
