Leukemia survivor Chad Hathaway, a co-owner of the Bakersfield Blaze, pitched the importance of a two-day blood drive happening this weekend on "First Look with Scott Cox" on Thursday.

Of blood donation, Hathaway said, it "means a lot to me. Blood saved my life."

He said he's a 14-year survivor of leukemia.

"Houchin (Community Blood Bank) kept me alive for quit some time," he said.

The blood drive takes place from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Outdoor Galore, 6801 White Lane.

Outdoor Galore will have drawings for $50,000 in prizes for those who donate.

Simulcast host Scott Cox said that's a lot of money in prizes -- but urged viewers and listeners to donate for the right reasons.

Don't wait until you or someone you know is touched by the need for blood, Cox said. He said it's not complicated to give.
