Take a look at your First News for Thursday, May 2.

John Farrer, who has served the Bakersfield Symphony Orchestra as conductor for nearly half the life of the venerable arts organization, will leave the podium after the 2013-14 season.

"I am not retiring," Farrer stressed in an interview with The Californian. "I will continue my professional life full bore."

The CIF Central Section made some significant changes at Wednesday's Board of Managers meeting, and it discussed even more.

Among them: The section eliminated all full-contact football practice in the off-season, something some districts have allowed (most notably the Clovis Unified School District) but others, like the Kern High School District, previously outlawed.

All this and more. Watch this morning's news on "First Look with Scott Cox."
