Local update: Elections chief urges voters to check for their proper voting place
By THE BAKERSFIELD CALIFORNIAN
With several hours of voting still to go Tuesday, Kern County's elections chief urged voters to make sure they check for their proper voting place.
"We want to make sure voters are checking their poll site if they're not sure," Karen Rhea said.
Don't just go to what seems like the closest polling place -- go to the one to which you are assigned, Rhea said shortly before 2:30 p.m.
Your polling place is listed on the back of the sample ballot that was mailed to you. You can also find your spot online at elections.co.kern.ca.us using the "find your polling place" link of by calling Kern County elections at 868-3590 or 800-452-8683.
If you signed up to receive a vote-by-mail ballot but still want to go vote at the polls, take along that ballot that was mailed to you, Rhea said. If you don't, you'll have to vote a provisional ballot, and likely stand in line.
It's much easier for voters to bring their completed vote-by-mail ballot, Rhea said.
Rhea also urged voters who have completed their vote-by-mail ballots to use the curbside ballot drop-off next to the County Administrative Building, 1115 Truxtun Ave.
"I'd say we're pushing 1,000 ballots that have been dropped off there," Rhea said.
Remember, polls are open until 8 p.m.
