Deputy arrested on spousal abuse charges
By THE BAKERSFIELD CALIFORNIAN
A Kern County sheriff's deputy was arrested early Friday morning on two counts of spousal abuse, Bakersfield police confirmed Monday.
Arthur Blake Rummel, 35, was arrested at 5 a.m. after his wife reported an assault during an argument and police found minor, visible injuries, Sgt. Mary DeGeare said.
The 33-year-old woman, who was not identified because the law protects the identity of spousal abuse victims, also told police about a prior assault that she had not reported, DeGeare said.
Rummel, a 13-year-veteran of the department, is on paid administrative leave pending the investigation, sheriff's spokesman MIchael Whorf said.
