Wrestling keeps you humbled and grounded. That's what Cal State Bakersfield wrestling coach Mike Mendoza said Friday on "First Look with Scott Cox."

To keep the CSUB wrestling program alive, the team will host "An Evening with Stephen Neal" at Stockdale Country Club.

This will be the fourth year the wrestling program will be privately funded after the university cut all funds to the program, Mendoza said.

An avid supporter of the wrestling program, Stephen Neal -- a former American football guard who played his entire career for the New England Patriots and is a former CSUB national champion amateur and collegiate wrestler -- said he is excited to be back this year to help raise money for the team.

"Wrestling is where it all started," Neal said. "We have a lot of potential at CSUB and we encourage the community to support our young wrestlers."

There will be live and silent auctions, along with a buffet dinner. Some auction items include a custom-made CSUB motorized bicycle in the university's colors and a Pismo Beach Condo rental.

The event kicks off at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday. Tickets are $75. For more information, call 302-4455.
