You can help fight homelessness and addiction one mile at a time. That is the slogan behind The Mission at Kern County's 5K fundraising run set for this weekend.

Monday on "First Look with Scott Cox," mission executive director Carlos Baldovinos explained that the money raised will go to an important cause.

Baldovinos said the mission serves at least 200,000 meals a year to homeless people. The money will also go to programs the mission offers to help people get back on their feet by enrolling in job skills classes.

"We are part of the community and we need everyone to help support us," Baldovinos said.

The race kicks off at 8 a.m. Saturday at CALM Zoo. Early registration is $30 for adults, $25 for students and $35 after Tuesday. For more information, call 325-0863.
