Walk around downtown Bakersfield on a Saturday night and you'll take in the aroma of restaurants cooking up their best dishes. And it's about to get even better.

Shawna Haddad-Byers, owner of Muertos, shared exclusive news about the future of downtown Monday on "First Look with Scott Cox."

"We are going to kick-start Texas 28," Haddad-Byers said. "We are bringing the bravado and energy of the South."

The restaurant will reconnect with local bands and be a place to enjoy live music as well as food.

Texas 28 will be the new name of the current On The Rocks Bar & Grill, 1517 18th St.

"It's a new place to go eat and hang out," she said.

Another business set to open downtown is Crash Lounge, 1810 Eye St.

Haddad-Byers said the lounge, unlike a bar, will feature the kind of high-end furniture and laid-back atmosphere of Manhattan. It will be open from noon to 9 p.m.

"I'm excited for all the new projects I'm a part of," she said.
