Two people were appointed by the Kern County Board of Supervisors and one by the Civil Service Commission to county leadership positions Tuesday.
Daniel Smith will be the director of Employers' Training Resource, Dick Taylor will be the veterans service officer and Virginia Krebs will be the director of personnel, according to news releases from the Kern County Administrative Office.
Smith is the former owner and general manager of Holiday Ford in Shafter, according to one of the news releases. He ran it from 1991 to 2011. Before he worked in Shafter, Smith was a Ford dealer consultant in El Toro and vice president and general manager of Queen City Ford in Long Beach.
He will start his position as head of the county's job training agency on Dec. 17, according to the news release.
Taylor served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1975 to 1979, according to one of the news releases. Taylor has been involved with local military service groups and helped organize the annual Marine Corps Volkslauf Run, the Devil Pups youth encampment and the Honor Flight program. Since 2006, he has been a field representative for Supervisor Mike Maggard.
Taylor will start his position as veterans service officer on Dec. 28, according to the news release.
Krebs has been employed by the county since 1999. She has held various positions in the Department of Human Services, Aging and Adult Services, Public Defender's Office and the County Administrative Office.
She will replace Mark Quinn, the retiring personnel director, on Jan. 7.
