Costa, Vidak headed to 20th District congressional wins
By THE BAKERSFIELD CALIFORNIAN
Looks like it'll be incumbent Jim Costa and challenger Andy Vidak in November's 20th Congressional District final.
With all precincts reporting, Costa, D-Fresno, had 77.8 percent of the vote compared to water consultant/rancher Steve Haze's 22.2 percent in Tuesday night's Democratic primary.
Vidak, a 44-year-old Hanford cherry farmer, had 71.4 percent of the vote in the Republican primary. Fresno certified public accountant Richard Lake had 21.4 percent of the vote while Fresno businessman Serafin Quintanar had 7.2 percent.
Costa has served in the House since 2005 and was a longtime California state legislator before that. This is Vidak's first run for public office.
The top issues are expected to be jobs and water, with Vidak arguing Costa has not done enough to keep water pumping to San Joaquin Valley farmers and Costa arguing he's been a leader for decades in securing water supplies.
The 20th District includes all of Kings County plus parts of Fresno and Kern counties including Arvin, Delano, McFarland, Shafter, Wasco and sections of Bakersfield.
