Could burying aircraft become a growth industry for Kern?
By THE BAKERSFIELD CALIFORNIAN
Since we broke the story earlier this week about a Swiss artist's plans to bury a Boeing 727 in eastern Kern County -- all for the sake of art -- our story has been followed by The Washington Post, the Huffington Post, USA Today and a number of other news organizations.
How could they resist, even if the story brings back slightly creepy memories of Chowchilla and a certain buried school bus.
But now it's time to place your seat backs in their full, upright position.
We've received an email from Zurich, Switzerland that makes this adventure even more surreal.
Be aware, English appears to be a second (or possibly a third) language for our whimsical Swiss friends. But I'm going to let them explain their mission in their own words, mostly because I'm having a hard time fully grasping their concept. But they're all about spreading happiness, so I'm down with it.
Dear team of Bakersfield.com:
We have heard from your article about the swiss artist Mr. Buchel, who wants to bury a plane. We are a swiss community of 600 creative workers who will bury a jumbo jet too, called "Bury the Jumbo." We want to use this new real space to promote creative workers from around the world.
All about Bury the Jumbo:
We are a democratic community of free thinkers. United in this community we create real poetic scenes from within the virtual space. Our output wishes to distract people from their accustomed routine and spread happiness. We support kindred spirits around the world who wish to make their dreams come true. Bury the Jumbo will open doors for them which normally stay closed. As a symbol for our new form of togetherness we will bury a Jumbo-Jet Boeing 747 (to its tail fin).
Have look on our chronological documentation what happened since more than 3 years: www.burythejumbo.com.
This video will give you a good overview, what we are doing:

If you like our project, we will try to come to california to bury this hulk. We would be honored if you will write an article about our project.
Best regards from Zurich Switzerland
