Bakersfield students donate 600 DVDs to local burn center

By ToppStories

Each year Almondale Elementary School encourages their students to be actively involved in the community by choosing a local project for the students to support.

When Darci Reed, program coordinator for San Joaquin Community Hospital's Grossman Burn Center, received a call from school officials that they'd been collecting DVDs for the burn center, she was excited.

But nothing prepared her for the outburst of generosity. Through donations by the students, the school donated more than 600 DVDs. The DVDs will be used to brighten the days of patients admitted to the burn center.

San Joaquin officials will attend a school assembly Friday morning to formally thank the students and staff.
