Supervisors in for interesting afternoon
By The Bakersfield Californian
You can expect that, while the morning session of the Kern County Board of Supervisors weekly meeting will be quiet, the afternoon session will be spicy.
Supervisors will be considering contracts with three companies that would, together, administer the biggest chunk of Kern County's employee health insurance system.
None of those companies are from Bakersfield, or even California.
A company that is from Bakersfield, Managed Care Systems, is expected to lose the contract with the county which it has held since 2009.
With millions of dollars in business at stake, a former county administrator at the helm of MCS, and a long history of hotly-contested public battles over this very contract, it's safe to be the 2 p.m. session will be....unpleasant? Acrimonious? Loud?
We'll see how it all turns out this afternoon.
