Supervisors to be updated on Lamont sewage, ElderLife

By The Bakersfield Californian

Kern County supervisors are scheduled, this morning, to hear a report from Public Health Director Matt Constantine on county efforts to help the Lamont Public Utilities District find a location for the treated sewage water that is temporarily flowing to Community Recycling and Resource Recovery under a court order that could end next month.

Agenda documents don't indicate that county officials have found a solution to the effluent problem, which Lamont PUD -- which has sued the county for closing the composting company where it sends its sewage water -- says could cause overflows onto area roadways and cost ratepayers millions.

Also on the agenda is an update on ElderLife, an adult day care program which supervisors voted to terminate after state funding was cut.

The program remains in place under a court settlement that requires it to be replaced with a similar service.

But the fate of the individuals that use the program, which is run by Kern Medical Center, is not yet clear.
