Kern County 'College Night' scheduled for Sept. 10

Kern County's 13th annual College Night will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Sept. 10 at the Rabobank Convention Center.
As in past years, students for free will have the opportunity to speak with representatives from colleges and universities from around the country. They include local colleges such such as Bakersfield College, Cal State Bakersfield and Taft College.
A host of University of California and California State University campuses will also be represented including UCLA, UC Davis and UC Santa Barbara, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, Cal State Sacramento and Cal State Northridge.
Private and out of state universities are attending this year as well including Colorado State University, Cornell University, Arizona State University, and Oklahoma State University, among others.
This year's event is sponsored by the Kern County Superintendent of Schools Office, and paid for in part by Chevron and PG&E.
Breakout sessions will begin at 5:45 p.m. and 6:45 p.m., with two more late sessions. Topics include how to gain financial aid for college, how to make the most of your high school experience, how to gain money through the California Dream Act, how to write that perfect Personal Statement, and how to prepare for high stakes tests, like the ACT and SAT.
Other sessions will focus on how to choose the right college, and how to maneuver the transfer process from community colleges to universities.
Counselors from throughout the Kern High School District will also be on hand to answer questions and help students and parents figure out which workshops fit their needs the best.
