Liberty High teen in possession of explosive material arrested
By The Bakersfield Californian
A 16-year-old Liberty High School sophomore was arrested Wednesday for being in possession of items to make a destructive device, school district officials said.
He planned on putting the explosive device in a bathroom canister as a prank, Kern High School District spokesman John Teves said. But another student who learned what the boy possessed alerted police first.
The boy, who was not identified because he is a minor, brought to school rubbing alcohol and a chlorine tablet, which he was allegedly going to mix in a plastic bottle and toss in a boys' bathroom on campus, Teves said. He did not plan on hurting anyone in particular, Teves said.
The 16-year-old is "going to be subject to discipline that could go all the way up to expulsion," Teves said.
