KCSOS announces Oral Language winners

The Kern County Superintendent of Schools office has announced the winners of the 42nd annual Kern County Oral Language Festival held Saturday at Frontier High School.
About 300 students participated in the drama and speech competition. Competitors were in grades four through eight, representing about 60 public and private schools.
Contestants performed in one of five interpretive categories: serious solo and duo, humorous solo and duo and verse choir (which featured at least three but no more than six students reciting in unison and in small group parts). Literary selections had to be published work available to all students.
Following are the students, or teams of students, who placed first in each category.
Grades four through six:
Serious solo interpretation, McKall Henrie -- Thorner Elementary.
Humorous solo interpretation, Mikaela Vargas -- Thorner Elementary.
Serious duo interpretation, Candace Maurer and Molly Jiron -- Thorner Elementary.
Humorous duo interpretation, Manuel Chavez and Daniel Gomez -- Myrtle Avenue.
Verse choir interpretation, Brett Gowling, Nate Vargas, Kaitlan Tucker, Zoe Hord -- American Elementary.
Grades seven and eight:
Serious solo interpretation, Nina Spinello -- Our Lady of Perpetual Help School.
Humorous solo interpretation, Jocelyn Larios -- McKee Middle.
Serious duo interpretation, Denise Lopez and Amy Mendiola -- Compton Jr. High.
Humorous duo interpretation, Zach Dameron and Tanner Brancato -- Freedom Middle.
Verse choir interpretation, Pooja Desai, Arsh Mehta, Dheer Patel, Reena Somani -- Warren Jr. High.
