Mary Lou Martinez , a fifth grade teacher at Fairview Elementary School in Bakersfield, is among 29 teachers who have been named a "California All-Star Teacher" by StudentsFirst.
Martinez was nominated for the recognition by Assemblyman Rudy Salas' office.
Award recipients will receive a $200 gift certificate for school supplies to help stock their classrooms for the back-to-school season. They also were recognized during the California State Assembly's floor session earlier this month, and attended a reception in their honor in Sacramento.

Four Cal State Bakersfield students were selected to receive 2013 John Brock Endowment scholarships.
The students will be presented with an award of $2,500 each during the annual John Brock Community Service Awards Dinner to be held 6 p.m. Sept. 5 at Seven Oaks Country Club, 2000 Grand Lakes Ave.
Scholarship winners are selected based on academic achievement, leadership and community service. They are Ricky M. Esparza, a senior working toward his bachelor's degree in business administration with an emphasis in management and marketing; Janet Espinoza, a senior majoring in business administration with a concentration in accounting; Paisley Stidham, who will be starting her senior year at CSUB this fall majoring in business administration with a concentration in human resources; and Derek Stotler, a junior double majoring in business and economics.
The event also will honor Ben Stinson III, president of Stinson Stationers.
The John Brock Endowment scholarships are funded by proceeds from the awards dinner. Tickets are $150 per person. For more information, call the CSUB School of Business and Public Administration at 654-2157.
Stephen LaFave , a student at Fresno State and graduate of Independence High School in Bakersfield, celebrated a first place win with the Santa Clara Vanguard Cadets at the 2013 Drum Corps International Open Class World Championship Finals Aug. 6 in Michigan City, Ind.
The Vanguard Cadets travel across the country about four weeks during the summer months performing in competitive field shows and parades.
LaFave is a bass drummer.
Sharila Stewart has been selected as a regional scholarship winner from the Kohl's Cares Scholarship Program.
Stewart, 17, of Bakersfield, will be awarded $1,000 for what the retailer described as "exceptional volunteer efforts" for her involvement in the Social Empowerment and Educational Development (SEED) program, helping about 45 students improve their math and public speaking skills.
