Tehachapi school officials investigate student "hit list"
By The Bakersfield Californian
Tehachapi Unified School District has informed several parents and staff members that it found a "hit list" a student wrote that included student and teacher names.
District officials investigated the list they found last week and questioned the Jacobsen Middle School who wrote it "to understand what was going on," Superintendent Lisa Gilbert said. Law enforcement was called to provide guidance to the district, and assess the situation.
"We felt it was an issue of safety. We chose to act in a very serious manner," Gilbert said. "They (police) felt we were responding appropriately."
Officials contacted parents of students named on the list, as well as staff members. Threat assessment professionals were brought in to gauge the situation. And the school provided resources to help the student who wrote the list, Gilbert said.
The student, who has since been removed from campus, told district officials about the list: "I did not mean it that way," Gilbert said.
