KHSD board to vote on stadium naming; more

Kern High School District's board on Tuesday is expected to hear a report on the start of the new school year, and vote on naming Foothill High School's football stadium in honor of the school's winningest coach, Ned Permenter.
Permenter began as a teacher in Foothill High when it opened in 1962, served as an assistant coach for three years, and as head coach for 37. According to KHSD's screening committee for the naming of facilities, Permenter helped develop Foothill football into a "powerhouse program, " became one of the winningest coaches in the Central Valley and inspired former players to be coaches.
In nomination letters, school officials and former students said Permenter enriched the lives of students and student-athletes, and his impact on students went far beyond the athletic field.
Also Tuesday, KHSD Superintendent Don Carter and KHSD director of research and planning Roger Sanchez will update the board on the start of the school year, and enrollment data. Updates include information in the new "parent information booklet," including graduation and college entrance requirements, and the California High School Exit Exam. Nearly 30,000 28-page booklets were prepared and mailed in August.
The meeting is at 7 p.m. at 5801 Sundale Ave. In other business, the board is expected to:
* Hear a report on board policy regarding the naming of KHSD facilities, as requested by a board member.
* Discuss in closed session the appointment of an assistant principal at Regional Occupational Center.
* Vote to appoint Stephen P. Renock, IV to a two-year term on the board of directors for the KHSD Educational Foundation.
* Accept a $3,000 donation for Stockdale High School programs from State Farm Companies Foundation's Matching Gift and Good Neighbor Grant programs. Five State Farm employees designated the donation, and each volunteered at least 40 hours of work for student activities.
