By THE BAKERSFIELD CALIFORNIAN

A tire blowout caused a vehicle to overturn on Highway 99 in Kern County Sunday, killing four Modesto family members.

Estella Castillo, 63, Juan Castillo, 11, Lino Castillo, 65, and Yolanda Castillo, 38, all died at the scene of the 2:51 p.m. crash, according to a coroner's office news release.

Jose Castillo, 43, was driving northbound on Highway 99 north of Pond Road when the vehicle's left tire tread separated, California Highway Patrol officers reported. Castillo lost control of the vehicle, which ran off the road overturned on the dirt shoulder.

Jose Castillo and 17-year-old Marcos Castillo suffered moderate injuries, officers said. All except Estella Castillo, who was thrown from the vehicle, were wearing seat belts.
