Blaze damages Pebble Creek Drive four-plex

By THE BAKERSFIELD CALIFORNIAN

Two residential units suffered heavy smoke damage after fire burned part of a Pebble Creek Drive four-plex Friday afternoon, the Kern County Fire Department reported.

No one was injured but a door-to-door search of the 6,000-square-foot building found three juveniles who the department said were hiding and scared. Fire crews helped the youths evacuate.

No one was home in the two units damaged by smoke. The department estimated that fire caused $100,000 in damage but that a portion of the structure worth $600,000 was saved. It said the building had working smoke detectors.

While the cause of the 4:01 p.m. fire was still under investigation, the department said the blaze appeared to have started in a dumpster next to the building.
