Man calls 911, admits to shooting wife several times

Police arrested a Bakersfield man Saturday after he called 911 and admitted to shooting his wife.

Loren Johnson, 55, called the dispatcher around 6:24 a.m. and directed police to his residence in the 3000 block of Catalina Drive, according to a Bakersfield Police Department news release.

Upon arrival, officers found Johnson in the driveway and a woman inside with several moderate to major gunshot wounds.

The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment and is in non-life-threatening condition.

Police found the firearm used.

Johnson was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and booked into Kern County Jail.
