Traffic stop results in arrest, drug seizure

A traffic stop Thursday near downtown resulted in an arrest and the seizure of methamphetamine, paraphernalia and $2,500 cash.

Kern County Sheriff's deputies stopped at driven by Joseph Gaitan, 43, about 4:30 p.m. at the intersection of California Avenue and L Street.

Deputies determined Gaitan was on probation. During a search of his home in the 1800 block of Cherry Street deputies allegedly found 11 grams of meth, cash and packaging material, scales and other narcotics paraphernalia.

He was arrested on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of sales and possession of narcotic paraphernalia.
