Suspects in hit-and-run arrested
By BREAKING NEWS BLOG
Two Bakersfield men were arrested on suspicion of a hit and run that killed a man on Feb. 10, according to a California Highway Patrol news release.
Anthony Saldana, 21, was in the westbound traffic lanes of Niles Street east of Valencia Drive, either on foot or riding a skateboard, when Jose Santos Villa, 49, collided with Saldana. Villa was driving a 2008 Chevrolet Colorado pick-up truck, officers reported. The passenger in the pick-up truck was identified as Christian Velasquez, 24, the news release said. Saldana died from his injuries.
After the collision, Villa failed to stop to help Saldana or to provide identification, officers said.
On Tuesday, an anonymous tip led officers to an address in Bakersfield where the involved vehicle was found and both Villa and Velasquez were booked into Kern County Jail.
