Two Bakersfield schools locked down amid burglary

By THE BAKERSFIELD CALIFORNIAN

Two southwest Bakersfield schools were temporarily placed on lock-down Tuesday as police pursued suspected burglars who they believe stole a gun from a nearby residence.

The lock-downs at Stonecreek Junior High and Berkshire Elementary were lifted after police arrested three individuals, two in the 4700 block of Ambrister Drive and one in the 4700 block of Chinta Drive, Bakersfield Police Department spokeswoman Michaela Beard said.

Three other suspects were at large.

Names and ages of the three suspects were not immediately available.

The incident began at 11:06 a.m. when Beard said officers responded to a call about a residential burglary in the 4500 block of Basque Street.

"A firearm was taken during the burglary, so these schools were placed on lockdown," she said.

The lockdowns were lifted before 1 p.m.
