Driver strikes pedestrian, takes off
By THE BAKERSFIELD CALIFORNIAN
The driver of a slow-moving pickup truck struck a pedestrian Tuesday afternoon -- and then took off without stopping, according to the Bakersfield Police Department.
It happened at 4:44 p.m. at the intersection of East Truxtun Avenue and Haley Street. Officers found that Alfred Ortega, 43, of Bakersfield had been crossing the street when he was hit by the pickup, which was heading northbound on Haley Street.
Police said Ortega didn't suffer visible injuries, but complained of pain and was taken to a hospital.
The pickup that fled is described as a 2000 to 2007 Chevrolet or GMC, extended cab, dark gray or black with a San Francisco 49ers or similar sticker on the back window. It was last seen going eastbound Sumner Street from Haley Street, a BPD news release said.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Bakersfield Police Department at 327-7111.
