Hazardous materials incident at inspection facility

At 4:20 a.m. Dec. 12, a big rig pulling a tanker trailer fro Haliburton entered the Grapevine Inspection Facility and a California Highway Patrol officer requested the driver pull into one of the inspection bays because the truck was overweight.
The officer then noticed a solution dripping from the tank that was discovered to by hydrochloric acid. Kern County firefighters and Environmental Health workers responded.
A CHP officer was taken to a local hospital as a precaution and Haliburton responded to the area for cleanup.
Traffic on Interstate 5 was not affected and the public was not at risk.
