CAL FIRE warns of holiday decoration fire hazards

Holiday decorations and trees can be a home fire hazard.

CAL FIRE is offering the following safety tips:

- When selecting a live Christmas tree, choose a fresh one with green needles and check the water level in the tree stand every days.

- Keep both live and artificial trees at least three feet away from any heat source, never use lit candles to decorate a tree and use lights that have been tested and labeled by a recognized testing lab.

- Choose holiday decorations that are flame resistant or flame retardant, replace any light strongs that are worn or have broken cords and use clips, not nails, to hang lights.
