Bakersfield man's body found in county field

The body of a man found on a Kern County dirt road Sunday morning by a field worker has been identified as Todd Chance of Bakersfield.

Sheriff's deputies said Chance, 45, suffered "obvious trauma" but declined to provide additional information. The body was found on the dirt extension of Noriega Road east of Enos Lane about 9:30 a.m.

Investigators determined that Chance's 2011 black Ford Mustang was missing. It was found a short time later abandoned near the intersection of Tigerflower Drive and Wheatland Avenue, about 17 miles southwest of his body.

A field worker Sunday found the body.

The investigation is ongoing.
