Defendant convicted of murder in gang-related shooting

A jury has convicted Mark Mendoza, Sr. of murder and committing the murder in furtherance of a gang in a 2011 shooting.
Mendoza, 42, faces life without the possibility of parole at his March 29 sentencing.
On Aug. 21, 2011, Mendoza went to a bar on Niles Street and saw members of a rival gang inside the bar. Mendoza shot Roman Fernandez in the parking lot, and Fernandez died a short time later at Kern Medical Center.
