Fire damages storage facility

By BREAKING NEWS BLOG

At 5:22 p.m. Tuesday, Kern County firefighters responded to a vehicle fire at a self-storage facility near the intersection of Weedpatch Highway and Kimber Avenue in Bakersfield.

The SUV was fully involved with a blaze that had spread into the neighboring storage facility. Firefighters were able to contain the fire to two individual storage units.

No injuries were reported, and damage was estimated at $25,000. The owners of the vehicle had tried to stop the fire with a fire extinguisher, but had been hampered by the quickly spreading flames.

The Kern County Fire Department is reminding residents to keep a fire extinguisher in your home and in your vehicle at all time. Go over its proper use and make sure it is in good working condition.
