Two men arrested in copper wire theft case

Two men were arrested Tuesday by deputies of the Lamont Substation in connection with recent copper wire theft.

Deputies found evidence of copper wire theft in a sump in the 7200 block of East Brundage Lane. Deputies went to the sump and found Billy Jones, 51, and Christopher O'Brien, 31,living in tents, according to a Kern County Sheriff's Department news release.

Both men were in the process of stripping plastic casing from stolen copper wire, according to the deputies.

The men were arrested on suspicion of possessing stolen property, possession of burglary tools, possession of less than an ounce of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and under the influence of a controlled substance, the news release said.
