Tehachapi police investigate suspected school shooting threat
BY BREAKING NEWS BLOG
Tehachapi Police won't pursue charges against a 16-year-old Monroe High School student who allegedly joked about shooting people at school, but have informed the Tehachapi Unified School District about the incident, according to a police department news release.
On Saturday, the police department got a report that a shooting might happen at the high school after a student overheard another pupil talking in a "'joking manner'" about "bringing a gun to school and shooting people," police said.
Police interviewed the students who were involved in the incident and their parents and a student who lives in Bear Valley "admitted to making the statement," police said.
"He also admitted that it was a 'dumb thing to say'," the news release said.
Police searched the teen's house but found no firearms there. He has no criminal record with the Tehachapi Police or Bear Valley Police Department, the news release said.
