Passenger dies in vehicle crash

A 45-year-old passenger in a vehicle that was struck by another vehicle died Wednesday in Shafter.

Jeffrey Bart Cantrell of Bakersfield died at 8:15 a.m. at the crash site at the intersection of Fresno and Beech avenues, according to a Kern County coroner's news release.

The Shafter Police Department said a 2002 Dodge Ram that was traveling northbound on Beech Avenue had struck a 2005 Chevrolet Colorado truck that had been traveling westbound on Fresno Avenue. The Chevrolet failed to stop at the stop sign at Fresno and Beech, a Shafter Police Department news release said.

The driver of the Dodge, Joshua Kimball, 29, was taken to Kern Medical Center with minor to moderate injuries, the news release said.

The driver of the Chevrolet, Cody Wayne Wurster, 23, was airlifted to Kern Medical Center with major injuries. Cantrell was a passenger in his vehicle, Shafter PD reported.
