CHP urging safe, sober driving on Super Bowl Sunday

The California Highway Patrol is urging motorists to drive safely and designate a sober driver on Super Bowl Sunday.
Alcohol was involved in nearly 25 percent of California crashes on Super Bowl Sunday in 2010, the most recent year in which finalized data was available. Those 211 alcohol-related collisions resulted in the deaths of six people and 124 others were injured.
The CHP has made almost 450 DUI arrests each Super Bowl Sunday over the past three years.
The public is asked to call 911 if they see a suspected drunken driver, and should be prepared to provide the vehicle's description, license plate number, location and direction of travel.
